ANTANANARIVO: Building on two successful editions, the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup will remain in Madagascar for the 2026 and 2027 tournaments, marking four straight years of hosting the continent’s premier 3x3 basketball event.
The competition will once again assemble the top men’s and women’s national teams from across Africa to compete for continental supremacy in the fast-paced, high-energy format of 3x3 basketball. As the reigning champions, the host nation Madagascar stands poised to pursue a historic treble sweep after securing both the men’s and women’s titles in 2024 and completing a back-to-back double in 2025.
The 2026 edition is scheduled for December 3–6 in the capital city of Antananarivo. It will take place at the familiar and highly popular Palace of Culture and Sports (Palais des Sports et de la Culture), a venue that has consistently delivered exciting on-court action while creating a vibrant festival atmosphere for players and fans alike.
Alex Sanchez, FIBA 3x3 Managing Director, praised the host country’s track record: “Madagascar has an excellent track record of delivering memorable FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup experiences — both on the court for the players and also through its hospitality and ability to create a festival feel around each event for the fans. We are excited to be able to agree on an extension for 2026 and 2027, which will mean four consecutive editions being held in the country. This is something that highlights the way Madagascar continues to embrace 3x3 basketball and the passion everyone shows for it.”
Julien Farran, FIBA Africa Executive Director, added: “We thank Madagascar for once again hosting a FIBA 3x3 event. Their continued commitment is a true reflection of the dedication they bring to developing 3x3 basketball across the country.”
Jean Michel Ramaroson, FIBA Central Board Member and President of the Fédération Malagasy de Basket-Ball, expressed national pride: “Hosting the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup for four consecutive editions is a source of immense pride for Madagascar. Our players have shown what is possible on the continental stage, and we will do everything to make 2026 and 2027 worthy of that legacy.”
The announcement underscores Madagascar’s growing reputation as a hub for urban basketball and 3x3 culture in Africa. The Palace of Culture and Sports has proven to be an ideal setting, combining world-class facilities with an enthusiastic local audience that enhances the event’s festive spirit.
With the 2026 tournament just months away, anticipation is already building for another high-level showcase of African 3x3 talent. The event will feature intense pool games, knockout stages, and plenty of on- and off-court entertainment.
