Jakarta: Qatar’s Talal Al-Marri and Abdulrahman Al-Dosari clinched the doubles gold medal at the 25th Asian Junior Bowling Championships in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Qatari duo produced an impressive performance to top the standings with a combined score of 2,613 points, edging Macau’s Fong Shan Hong and Chiu Lucio Marcelino, who secured the silver medal with 2,585 points.
Kuwait’s Hassan Qassem and Fahad Al-Saqbi completed the podium, taking bronze after accumulating 2,563 points.
The doubles triumph added to Qatar’s medal haul at the continental championships after Ahmed Adel Al-Darwish claimed bronze in the men’s singles event. Al-Darwish recorded 1,359 points over six rounds to secure a place on the podium.
Qatar’s junior squad is competing across the singles, doubles and team events at the championships, which continue until August 30.
The national team comprises Talal Al-Marri, Musaed Al-Marri, Abdulrahman Al-Dosari, Hassan Al-Marri, Abdullah Al-Dosari, Ahmed Adel Al-Darwish, Hamad Ahmed Al-Abdullah and Mohammed Issa Al-Abd Al-Jabbar.
The squad is led by head coach Pedro Mirani, with Khalifa Ali Al-Kubaisi serving as assistant coach.
Competition continues with the four-player team event on Wednesday and Thursday as the Qatari bowlers look to add further medals to their tally.
At the conclusion of the preliminary events, the top 16 male and female bowlers in the overall standings will advance to the Masters competition.
The first stage of the Masters will feature eight rounds on August 28, followed by the placement stage on August 29. The top three players in each category will then progress to the finals, which will be contested under the progressive Step Ladder format.
